By far I think my favourite piece. The small metal pipe overhangs the mattress (which I think was made of fibreglass) which constantly dips water, pooling below. I always a fan of kinetic installations and the fact that it just seemed so out of place in a gallery setting. Grungy but beautiful!

Richard Hughes Chapel Perilous 2010

A kaleidoscopic sculpture consisting of six mirrored sections made up of windows and radiators adorned with teenage memorabilia. I was really drawn to this piece and spent a long time taking it all in. I particularly like the detail of mirroring, right down to the skateboard stickers and Mario toys!

This may look like an ordinary wall covered in blu tack (it may not even look like that with my awful photograph - apologies!). The installation actually consists of 300 individual pieces cast in bronze hand painted to resemble every day blu tack…dedication is not the word!

Richard Hughes Sleeping Rust 2012

What first appears to be part of the architecture, on closer inspection are carefully placed rusty drainpipes, complete with bird’s nest. The pipes spell out the word ‘nowhere’ which, without being told requires a lot of staring and standing in the right position in order to see! It’s a lot more obvious looking at it through a camera lens!

A brilliant use of space and the wonderfully curved wall of the gallery.

Our friends invited us to a late night opening at Colchester’s firstsite gallery. Activities included a fake fungus tour, printing with teck deck’s, kaleidoscope making and many more, all linked in with the work on show. We were delighted by this and ran around like small children (nothing to do with the extremely strong cocktail the majority of the group had been given upon entry - myself excluded!)

The main artist exhibiting was Richard Hughes and I would like to share a few images of his work that appealed to me the most.

Hey Tumblr! I’m back and ready to blog!! So 2013 already for me has been a pretty crazy year. Events include; pregnancy (im 27 weeks now!), moving to Colchester, a wedding and a funeral…and that was all pretty much in April! So not much time for creativity or visiting galleries :(

But fear not! moving to Colchester has helped me re-gain my creative flair with help from our lovely cultured friends who have been giving us tours of the best places to be, see and of course drink at! (not that drinking is any use to me at the moment!)

Merry Christmas everyone!! This year I was determined to do something creative and as baking mince pies and ginger bread went out the window (due to lack of time, ingredients and utensils!) I thought I would try my hand at tree decorations. At the beginning of December I visited Blackthorpe Barns just outside of Bury St.Edmunds. Every year they have local arts and crafts and Christmas decorations (a barn for each!). The whole experience was very inspirational and festive so would recommend it to anyone in the area. The decorations barn is amazing! Everything is very shiny and sparkly so great for kids and magpies like me! I saw a large heart decoration covered in star anise and got inspired to re-create something similar.

I ordered some blank wooden hearts from ebay and painted them a dark red. I then ordered some Star anise (500g for some reason, dont think I needed that much!) and stuck them to the hearts with a glue gun. I experimented with different looks with paint and glitter and settled with dotting the middle of the star with silver. This gave them a festive German style feel much like Lebkuchen biscuits. The star anise also gives off an aniseed scent which I’m hoping would act like an air fresher.

I’m pretty proud of my decorations and am looking to give them as small Christmas gifts :)

I attended the wedding of two of my best friends a couple of weeks ago. I thought I would share some pics as it was so original and creative. The bride wore a 50s style dress complete with white Converse with lace detail. The Groom also wore his Cons and their wedding cake toppers were giraffes!…and you know how much I love giraffes! Such a beautiful day :)

I found an old kids cookbook with some Halloween party food ideas which I thought I would take a bash at. So we have a severed jelly hand (red and orange jelly poured into a rubber glove and frozen over night) which looks really creepy but not many people ate it so may have worked too well! We also made eyeball cup cakes and a cow pat cake! All very scrummy and spooky! Very enjoyable and great fun to make :D

My costume idea was based on the Greek myth of the ‘Graeae’ one of the three witches/sisters who share an eyeball! The story came from the myth of Perseus who stole the witches eye to gain information on how to kill Medusa (crazy Gorgon with snakes for hair!) The story of the three sisters has been re-told in various films including Disney’s Hercules and re-release of Clash of the Titans in 2010 (personally not seen that one but might give it a go now!).

I made my costume by ripping up a green t-shirt into strips and sewing them directly onto a black poncho at different intervals. I used face paint to whiten my face and black out my eyes. I added tiny green veins on my face to give the impression of age and ill health! I then obtained said eyeball (glow in the dark bouncy ball from ebay!) and back combed my hair.

I was really happy with the overall effect and had great fun posing!
